What is Fundraising?

Fundraising is the process of soliciting and collecting voluntary financial contributions from individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or government agencies. Although fundraising is most commonly associated with efforts to raise funds for non-profit organizations, it is also used to describe the identification and solicitation of investors or other sources of capital for for-profit enterprises.

Fundraising Definition

The majority of fundraising falls into one of two categories: donations or trading. This includes one-time donations to charities, regular direct debits, sponsorship for events such as marathons, and legacies money left to charities in people’s wills. Some charities raise funds by selling goods or services.

Fundraising for Church Financing

Many faith-based organizations rely on their fundraising events to raise capital before they look for church financing lenders. In fact, many organizations receive the majority of their funding from sources other than their faith community. Our intention is not to suggest that Faith-Based Organizations should limit their fundraising efforts to the faith community; rather, we want to help maximize the mutual benefits of these connections.
